Christian Teaching and Learning Framework

The Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning works closely with all teachers ensuring best practice in teaching pedagogy and continued professional development and improvement. Our Dean of Learning works with year groups and individuals to identify appropriate patterns of studies as students complete the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) curriculum.

The College is committed to encouraging all students, of all levels, to strive for academic excellence and maximisation of educational outcomes. Through the development of differentiated teaching and learning programs, staff aim to meet the learning needs of individual students. Our Gifted Education and Learning support teams identify and track students, coordinate individual and group programs and assist the teachers in developing strategies and enrichment appropriate to the student’s ability.

At Broughton, students bring their own devices where they learn to use technology responsibly, creatively and collaboratively.

All students are enrolled in Biblical Studies which is an academic course designed by the College that teaches students how to read, understand and work out the implications of the Bible for themselves.

Integrating Christian values and academic excellence

At Broughton we have developed a unique approach to ensuring delivery of quality Christian education by using a Christian teaching and learning framework. Our framework is developed from four principles that shape our classrooms: Christ-Centred, student-focused, evidence informed and collaboratively designed.

In practice, Christ Centered means we re-shape our teaching to demonstrate to students God’s design for each subject and engage students in Christian thinking that is relevant to the content. A student-focused approach means we focus on the discipleship and mentoring of students’ character and adapt our teaching to students, ensuring each child is supported in their learning. The principle of evidence informed means we guide the selection of teaching and learning strategies based on what research shows works best, and we also use student assessment data and feedback to inform our decisions in the classroom, allowing for a responsive learning environment with targeted supports for student needs. Finally, all teachers and students work together with a collective responsibility for the learning of students and therefore a team approach of making key learning decisions together so that the teaching and learning is collaboratively designed.

Sport

We encourage all students to explore their sporting interests and strive for personal development through movement. Broughton is committed to providing avenues for every student to engage in sports and develop both confidence and abilities.

We prioritise inclusivity and skill development, with tailored sport groups accommodating varying abilities. Through these activities, we aim to instil a love for physical activity and teamwork, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Students from Years 2-12 participate in annual Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnivals, fostering both competition and camaraderie through our house system. Our sports program offers a wide array of options, including traditional sports like Football, Softball, and Cricket, as well as recreational activities such as Dance and Pilates.

For those seeking competitive opportunities, Broughton facilitates participation in representative levels through organisations like the CASA (Co-Educational Anglican Schools Association), offering pathways in over 15 sports annually. Students may also advance to higher levels, competing in state wide competitions such as the Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools (AICES) and Combined Independent Schools (CIS).  Moreover, Broughton students excel on national and international stages, with many competing in events like the NSW All Schools and Pacific Schools Games.

Broughton offers all the core required NESA courses and a wide range of elective courses for students.

We offer a wide range of electives that is tailored each year and is dependent on student interest.
